As the US economy enters 2007, employment is at record levels, with 136 million+ people on company payrolls. And every month sets a new record. The job market today is as good as or better than any market year since 1960’s. Some issues to consider:
Raymond Nason, the recent recipient of the Eastern Carolina Workforce Development Board's (ECWFDB) Workforce Investment Act (WIA) Participant of the year (2006) was recognized for his outstanding achievement for dislocated workers at its recent annual conference.
Raymond is a Navy veteran with a nuclear plant background who was dislocated due to plant closings and lack of employment availability within his particular skill areas. His interest was in the area of electronic repair. In a cooperative effort between the Veterans Outreach Specialist (DVOS) of the Jacksonville North Carolina Employment Security Commission and the WIA Coordinator, Raymond was registered at Coastal Carolina Community College to pursue his Associate of Arts in Applied Sciences (AAS).
Considering the recent article of the Workministry.com newsletter "Job Market Talking Points" that "timing is everything", Raymond was completing his education and training at the same time the North Carolina (NC) Education Lottery was approved by the NC legislature. The contract company G-Tech needed trained electronics personnel to install all the gaming, printing, and communication devices and equipment throughout the state of NC. Raymond Nason is now the Regional Installer for the company G-Tech.
Raymond is only one of many examples of how veterans succeed after their service, and how the Veteran Employment and Training Services (VETS) program of Local Veteran Employment Representatives (LVER), and DVOS partnering with local workforce development partners and employers can provide the foundation and connectivity to facilitate a veteran's success.
Congratulations to Raymond Nason and all other veterans that have had recent accomplishments.

A very common question asked by job seekers is: "what’s the best timing for follow up after an interview?" Let’s assume that there was no agreement at the conclusion of the interview about next steps. An appropriate answer is within four to five business days, provided you have the hiring manager contact name to call or email. Contacting HR is appropriate as well, but less direct than the hiring manager. Best recommendation: a candidate should ask questions at the end of the interview and confirm the follow-up tasks. It is not a good idea to leave the "next steps" in the process in the hands of the hiring manager or HR!
