As the job market continues to improve, the areas of growth, and future shortages of skills are beginning to get the attention of the media. Here are some areas where you want to focus upon in advising your clients about career directions. The most recent BLS Report (April, 2006) indicates that financial services (banks, insurance companies, brokerage firms, consumer credit) have added over 200,000 jobs so far this year. The second major growth area is health care, with additions in nursing, residential care facilities, hospitals, and medical care providers. A third area is professional services, such as computers and consulting. In your coaching/counseling role, consider pointing your clients to where the job growth and emerging shortages are taking place this year.

Get a "meets specs." Company Human Resources folks are facing multiple demands on their time and resources for performance. Staffing pros like us can help. Once we understand what a client company wants for an open position, we can get to work and find the right candidate. The specifications for the position provided by the client must drive the process for reviews of candidates and selection of one or more to present to the client. There are two rewards for getting it right. First, a satisfied company client who says, "This candidate meets the specs." Secondly, a satisfied job seeker gets a chance to connect with an employer with a job that matches up well to their background and interests. A win/win!
