The new year is upon us and we wish you the best of success for your job search! Are you ready for prime time? Our site and resources, plus the leadership of the job support groups, are here to help.
Bureau of Labor Statistics, (BLS) Labor Department: (summary) The economy added 18,000 jobs in December, one of the weakest reporting months in four years. The US employment rate slipped from 95.2% to 95%, with an increase in filings for unemployment. For all of 2007, payrolls grew by 1.3 million positions, compared with 2.3 million in 2006.
Comment: The Labor department is mandated to report monthly job growth numbers on the first Friday of the month, so it reports the number that it has to that date. As new information becomes available about jobs added, revisions to the reported number may result in an overall increase in jobs added in December.
Job gains were reported in health care, food services and government, while losses were reported in retail and manufacturing.

The "Buddy" system:
The job search process is often a solo effort, sitting at home on the PC, making phone calls and attending networking meetings.
One method we have witnessed that really seems helpful for some job seekers is the formation of a small group for job search. A few people, perhaps three to five, working together to help each other and hold each other accountable for weekly efforts seems to work. The common characteristics of these small groups using the Buddy system are:
- The details of the background and goals of each member is shared
- Member assist each other with presentation of resume, marketing and contacts
- Each member makes weekly commitments of assignments and reports on results
- Members celebrate successes that lead to interviews and offers
In your search process, consider establishing a small group of buddies to help your efforts and provide help and support to others.

"It is one of the most beautiful compensations of this life that no man can sincerely try to help another without helping himself."
Ralph Waldo Emerson
The will of God for your life is simply that you submit yourself to Him each day and say, "Father, Your will for today is mine. Your pleasure for today is mine. Your work for today is mine. I trust You to be God. You lead me today and I will follow."
