The Work Ministry Team wishes all of you a great new year! Let’s make 2007 the year of job search success for all of the people we know who are actively looking for opportunities!
As the US economy enters 2007, employment is at record levels, with 136 million+ people on company payrolls. And every month sets a new record. The job market today is as good as or better than any market year since 1960’s. Some issues to consider:
- The US economy created about 2 million jobs in 2006, drawing down unemployment to the 4.5% range. Since economists consider 4% unemployment the equivalent of full employment (not all working age adults are available to work) we are entering an era of a "sellers market" for job seekers.
- For the first time since World War II, over the next few years US businesses will face worker shortages at all levels. Surveys of employers indicate:
- Employers are reporting recruiting difficulty at or near record levels for most jobs in manufacturing and service businesses.
- Employers are anticipating significant increases in turnover in 2007.
- The overall job opportunities available for job seekers the past few years have relied heavily on job growth, but that is changing. If job growth continues, and employer turnover increases, and worker shortages become the norm, then job seekers in 2007 will "own" the job market. The year 2007 may be the year of the "Perfect Storm" for job seekers!

As an active job seeker, or perhaps a person who is not actively looking but thinking about a change, there are a number of things to do right to be successful in a search. Most people who are successful in landing a new opportunity share one common practice: specifics. If you have four or five target companies and focus on those in your meetings and emails, people will be responsive in attempts to help with introductions. Asking for help in general is not productive - people who want to help need to think about their contacts and who they know who could help with your target companies. Talk about your job search in terms of specific companies and enable people to be more helpful to you.

"The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, nor a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack of will."
- Vince Lombardi
The will of God for your life is simply that you submit yourself to Him each day and say, "Father, Your will for today is mine. Your pleasure for today is mine. Your work for today is mine. I trust You to be God. You lead me today and I will follow."
- Kay Arthur
